Purple Glitter: W7, Black liner: KISS.

I made the effort (ish!) for Halloween. :)

We're now into Craft Season, which means sadly nails always fall by the wayside in favour of stitching, cooking, sticking, sewing, knitting, crocheting and cooking.

If you get bored of the lack of nail updates, head over to my new blog Squeakret Squirrel to see what's taking up all of my nail-doing time these days. I WILL still be updating Y Nails when I have new designs to show off, but for the moment my home-made Christmas is taking priority!

OPI manicure, with generic holographic chunky glitter top coat, and Nails Inc. "New York"  (Diet Coke Ltd. Ed.) tip on ring finger, with graduating pink crystals.

I was lucky enough to get a manicure for my day as a bridesmaid, so I decided when it was a few days old that I would spin it out for a little bit longer with a glitter top coat and a touch of pink.

I like it so much I might actually do it again!

Ok, these are rough pre-clean-up shots,  but I just had to share incase anything smudges when I top coat! :S

For this design I used: Nails Inc. - Aspen (metallic red), Barry M (metallic green, and yellow), GOSH (metallic gold), KISS black and white stripers. I used so little of the blue (and it was a bit old and crap too) so that's not important. Just use a generic blue.

Now, the only colours I used the striper brushes for were black and white. For other detail work, I use butchered kids paintbrushes, that I cut to size with scissors. Brushes can't be cleaned after this, they fall apart, so use them for everything that you can in each sitting. If you want a larger dotting tool (as I did), you can also use the other end of the paintbrush.

The AWESOME tutorial for the King of Hearts (AKA, how to do it properly!) can be found here:

Right, confession: I did not place each stone by hand. Rather, I am smarter than that, bought some crystal body tattoos, quartered them, and used them. No real tech-spec here, bog-standard white polish, and then tattoos.

Another Wedding...

Ever want to know if you scratch your nose in your sleep? Do this design. Wake up with a bloody nose? Yeah ya do... :S

Testing Barry M Nail Effects

05:25 Posted In , , , Edit This 0 Comments »
The long-awaited "Nail Effects" by Barry M finally found it's way into my possession last week (after ordering it from Boots AND Superdrug!). This stuff is £3.99 (£1 more than normal BM colours) and was going for up to £45 on eBay. Nail peeps are CRAZAZY!! Anyways, here is my test:

Base: Rimmel White, topped with W7 Gold, Pink, Purple, Green, Blue, Silver and Orange Dazzle glitters. Barry M Nail Effects (Black, 311).

To be honest, if I'd thought about it and had more time, I would have applied a single layer of clear polish over the top of the glitter, as the BMNE seemed to almost separate the glitter polishes as well as itself. The black polish is painted on all in one coat completely covering the nail. Then it separates into a variety of patterns depending on how thickly you apply it, and what you apply it over. the ones I chose seem to create an animal-y print, though apparently it can do shattered barcode style effects too. It does dry matte, and apparently rubs off if you don't apply a top coat. Also, the initial two coats of top coat dried bumpy, so if you're a fidgeter who has to have flat nails, you will need to stock up on the top coat for this stuff!

Overall, I like it.

Blue Fade

Blue base, Hard Candy "Frigid", sponged over with Nails Inc "Regents Palace". No-name pink shimmer polish over the blue, and purple-based holographic glitter over the purple. The design is Hard Candy "Trailer Trash" silver, applied through a stencil from a company who's name escapes me (came free with a set of three glitter liners). The single stone on each nail is a Swarovski AB 3mm crystal.

Long Time No Blog!

Yup yup, I am a bad blogger. What with family illness, Christmas, etc, I had no time to do any fancy nails, let alone blog about them. :(

So, I spent November and December rocking the OPI "Burlesque" glitters collection. However, new year new designs, and here we go...
